🐻 Wildlife Awareness: Living in Bear Country

Bears enjoy the lake too!
Here in the Summer Village of Larkspur, we’re lucky to share our beautiful surroundings with nature — but that also means sharing space with wildlife. We all know we live in Bear Country, and it’s important to stay informed and take the right precautions. Other animals like cougars, coyotes, and smaller critters may also be nearby, so always stay alert.

Remember: Wildlife is unpredictable. Please be extra cautious and never approach or feed any wild animals.

🐾 Tips for Living in Bear Country:

  • Keep garbage and recyclables in bear-resistant, airtight containers

  • Compost indoors — outdoor compost can attract bears

  • Remove bird feeders from April to November and clean up spilled seed

  • Clean your barbecue thoroughly after each use and store it in a secure building

  • Consider removing fruit trees or berry bushes. If you keep them, pick ripe fruit early and store securely

  • Never leave food out for any wildlife

  • Talk to your neighbors if you’ve seen a bear nearby and share BearSmart tips
