🐾 Animal Control: Happy Pets, Safe Community
Larkspur is a peaceful community, and part of keeping it that way is being a responsible pet owner. Our Animal Control Bylaw (24-01) helps ensure that pets are cared for respectfully while also protecting people, property, and wildlife.
🦴 Basic Rules for Pet Owners
-
Dogs must be on a leash at all times when in public areas unless they are in the designated off-leash area.
-
Larkspur’s off-leash area is clearly marked along a section of the pathway—please ensure your dog remains within this area when off-leash.
-
Barking dogs should not disturb the peace—barking that exceeds 80 decibels for more than 2 hours may result in fines.
-
You must clean up after your dog on all public and private property.
-
Animals in heat must be kept indoors or securely confined to prevent unwanted interactions.
🐕🦺 Dogs Must Be Under Control
-
Pets must not run at large. Dogs must be on a leash and under control unless they are in the marked off-leash zone.
-
A dog is considered “at large” if it is off its owner's property and not leashed or otherwise physically restrained.
-
Owners of dogs found running at large can face fines of $75 to $125.
⚠️ Vicious and Dangerous Dogs
Dogs that have shown aggressive behavior, bitten someone, or pose a threat may be declared Vicious by enforcement officers.
If your dog is declared vicious, you must:
-
Keep it confined in a secure enclosure when at home.
-
Keep it muzzled and leashed when off your property.
-
Take all precautions to prevent attacks or threats toward people or animals.
Failure to comply can result in fines up to $1,000, and in serious or repeat cases, the dog may be removed or destroyed under the bylaw.
